Introduction to Handguns
Whether you’re brand new to handguns or an experienced shooter looking to revisit the fundamentals, this course is designed to build safe, effective, and confident handgun skills.
The Introduction to Handguns course is a full-day training class focused on the core principles of handgun safety, operation, and marksmanship. It is ideal for new handgun owners, those considering their first purchase, and advanced shooters who want to reacquaint themselves with pistol fundamentals in a structured training environment.
No prior experience is required, and you do not need to own a firearm to attend.
What You Will Learn
Students will receive hands-on instruction covering:
- Safe handling and operation of handguns
- Loading and unloading procedures
- Fundamental marksmanship skills (grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control)
- Diagnosing and correcting common shooting errors
- Basic handgun cleaning and maintenance
- California-specific firearm laws, including:
- Legal ownership considerations
- Transportation and storage requirements
- Defensive use of a handgun under California law
This course emphasizes strong fundamentals, which are critical for both new shooters and experienced shooters looking to sharpen performance.
Equipment & Firearms
Students who already own a handgun and ammunition are encouraged to bring them.
For those who do not own a handgun, we can provide everything needed for the course, including a handgun, ammunition, and required equipment, for a small additional fee.
Handgun Rental: $50
(Includes everything needed for your first—or refresher—training day.)
Schedule
- Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- A short break will be taken for lunch. Please bring a packed lunch and a drink.
What to Bring
Required:
- Packed lunch and drink
- Baseball-style cap
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen (the range is outdoors)
- Closed-toe shoes
- No low-cut tops (for safety during live-fire exercises)
Optional:
- Your personal handgun and accompanying equipment
- 150 rounds of ammunition for your handgun
